Categories
Define the types of press you accredit and use them to control asset access.
Overview
Categories let you classify the journalists and media professionals you accredit. Examples include Press, Photographer, TV Crew, Blogger, and Broadcast Partner. Categories serve two purposes:
- Organisation — they help you filter and manage accreditations by type.
- Access control — assets can be restricted to specific categories, so a photo set intended only for photographers is not visible to broadcasters, and vice versa.
When you first set up the press room for an event, Evencia creates a default set of categories automatically.
Where to find it
From your event's main navigation, select Media, then Categories.
Default categories
When the press room is first opened for an event, the following categories are created automatically:
- Press
- Photographer
- TV Crew
- Blogger / Influencer
- Broadcast Partner
You can rename, deactivate, or delete any of these and create your own.
Creating a category
- Select New category.
- Enter a name.
- Optionally add a short description.
- Select Save.
The new category is immediately available when assigning categories to journalists or restricting asset visibility.
Editing a category
- Find the category in the list.
- Select Edit.
- Change the name or description.
- Select Save.
Activating and deactivating a category
Categories can be deactivated to hide them from use without deleting them. Deactivated categories no longer appear as options when assigning journalists or setting asset visibility.
To deactivate a category, edit it and turn off the Active toggle.
Deleting a category
Deleting a category removes it from the list. Any assets that were restricted to that category become inaccessible to the journalists who had it — those assets will need to be reassigned to a different category or made visible to all accredited media.
To delete a category:
- Find it in the list.
- Select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
Common problems
A journalist cannot see an asset I expected them to see
Check that:
- The journalist has been assigned to the correct category (from their record in People).
- The asset's visibility is set to include that category.
I deleted a category and now some assets are invisible
Reassign those assets to a new category or change their visibility to All accredited media.
